So, I'm still sick. But I think, honestly think, that I'm getting better. I go longer without needing to cough and even longer between coughing shit up. Though when I do cough shit up it hurts like a mother fuck. But I can occasionally cough and just be fine, so better. And it does seem to be clearing up. Like mostly it's after I've been laying down for a long while that I cough shit up, where it's rested and piled in my throat. I'm hoping to be fully better when I go back to school in January.

Christmas was mostly quiet this year. Ben and Beth came up for our Yule celebration which was nice. Christmas day was quiet with Mom, Dad, and I watching Avatar (finally) and Sorcerer's Apprentice. Avatar wasn't GREAT, but it was pretty good. After seeing it, I have to agree with some of my friends. It's like an adult Furn Gully. Sorcerer's Apprentice was good. It made me want to create an OC and play in that sandbox. Not sure if I will though. I do have a fair amount of original stuff and AU stuff I'm writing. We'll see.

My computer went into Geek Squad Christmas Eve. They said it should be 3-5 days before they call me with what's wrong with it and we go from there. I'm hoping Joe was right and it's just an ATA connector cable that has to be replaced. Dad and I weren't happy at paying $70 for a diagnostic fee though. That really is a hell of a lot to tell me what's wrong with the computer without actually doing anything to fix it.

Yesterday was Family Christmas. My Aunt didn't put the turkey in early enough so we ended up doing dinner without the turkey, opened presents, then turkey and dessert. It was interesting but lead to more over eating that should be allowed. I'm going to have a lot to do when I get back to my Wii Fit come two weeks.

Erin and Kristi's presents have been shipped today, so those should be there in 3-7 days! Watch for them you two!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my friends out there!!!

Hope that it's filled with joy and merriment!

P.S. I feel in a write-y mood so drabble suggestions are welcome, both character and if you have a specific prompt.

I am so tired of feeling like crap...
I hate that I can't go one god damn day without coughing so hard I throw up my dinner.
I also hate feeling so god damn tired all the time. I miss being able to stay awake past 11:30 at night. Though the whole being up at 6:30am for work doesn't help that one.

I'm just...blah. It's the Holidays and all I want to do is curl up in my fuzzy blanket with my Teddy and sleep it away...and it's not for lack of having things to do or the lack of enjoyment of family, it's just that I have no energy.

Tales of the Mouser -- A heroic story of a cat's brave quest to rid his Mistress' room of whatever is living there... )

Mom also suggested that to organize my books, since I have more than I have shelves for, we take the paper boxes that reams of paper come in, cut them down so only one level of book fits in it, and box my books up that way. This way, the boxes themselves aren't that heavy because it's only one level of books, and I can mark on the cover what books are in what box and still be able to get to them should I want to read them. I really kind of like this plan too. I think it will go a long way in organization until I can get a place of my own with enough shelf space for my books.

As well, here's hoping that I get to leave a little early from work today.

So at the moment, my desktop is just a big paperweight...The poor thing tries to boot up Windows, gets part way there, clutches it's chest and dies, only to reboot itself hoping next time it will be better...and just stays in that vicious loop. The guy that looked at it said that basically it's the ATA connector cord that's malfunctioning and I'm going to have to take it to a shop and see if they can fix it. And of course Dad is sitting there going "I can't believe the crap you do to your computers!" Like it's my fault that a piece of hardware equipment five years old has crapped out on me.

He points to the computer in the basement which is older than my desktop and goes "But that one works just fine!" And it's like, yea, because that one doesn't travel in a car a couple times a year, it sits on a desk and doesn't move ever. Joe assured me after Dad left the room that it wasn't my fault. It's just the wear and tear of the machine coupled with both driving it to school and back when I move in and out of the dorm as well as the fact that the cable is placed in a really crappy spot in the actual computer. But yea, so I have to take it to Geek Squad or some other computer fix'en place to have it looked at and have them tell me approximately how much it will cost to fix it.

Other than that....aside from throwing up here and there due to coughing, not much is going on with me. Yule last night was fun. My illness actually stayed away while people were around so I had fun. Joe and Michelle bought me a big eyed kitty for Christmas and I'll be getting a matching bear! Ben bought me a sock monkey! And Beth bought me this adorable wolf backpack. If I use it as my purse, I will have an excuse to have something cute to snuggle while in class. I love when I get stuffed animals for Christmas! And come Monday, I'll have a video game I REALLY want too!

Cards should be going out in the mail today. I know it's late and I know they won't get to people BEFORE Christmas, but at least they'll get to people before New Years! Being sick has really had me late on a lot of stuff. I still need to box and ship Erin and Kristi's presents. I'm thinking those will be done after Christmas, if only because I'm working today and tomorrow so I won't have time to box them up until Christmas Eve. But they will get shipped before I go back to school!!!!!

Yes, you read that correctly, before Thanksgiving actually rolls around, I want to get a jump start on this. Mainly because not having my computer STILL...has me behind in a lot and I don't want this to be one of those things I fall behind in.

SO!

I need to know who would like a card! ^_^

All comments are screened because as well as a 'Yes, me!' I need addresses.

Whether you think I have your address or not, give it to me. I'm never positive I have the current address for people unless you haven't moved in a million years. As well, not exactly sure where my address book disappeared to. =D

So, wow has it been ages since I updated my personal journal. Life has been pretty busy and crazy for me this semester, mostly with getting sick. Had a blood test done and they were able to tell me that the reason I was so tired and unable to get out of bed was because I had a sever iron deficiency. It was sever enough that after a month taking iron my blood was only at the bare minimum for what it should be, so I'm still on the iron for now. Thankfully my energy is still coming back, though since November came in I've had a constant headache sometimes bordering on migraine.

I did however talk to my adviser and with 18 credit hours next spring (which...is a hell of a lot for me) I shall graduate. Mom and I are batting around the idea that I take 15 for Spring and an online class from home over summer to finish just so I'm not spending the money on said classes and setting myself up to fail because 18 credits of 3000 and 4000 classes is a LOT to take in one semester. Everything plan wise will be decided when I go home for Thanksgiving. I know I can do 15 because Beth is in two of the classes I'm taking so we'll be able to help each other there, and Beth and I are planning to set like an hour to two hours every other day for studying in the Lawson basement away from distractions. With cracking down, and one of those classes being called an easy A because the teacher is retiring after Spring and just doesn't care, I should be completely fine with 15. It's that extra 3 hours. I've never taken more than 15 hours before and it makes me nervous thinking about taking it.

On a side note, I'm also participating in NaNoWriMo this year. I've got a fairly good start, though I'm about a day behind the average word count. But that's because I didn't write for the first three days. Instead of doing an original story, I'm writing a fanfic and letting it take me where it kind of wants to go while staying fairly true to canon, or it will stay decently true with the AU twist when it gets up to canon because it started before the canon started by about a year.

yay. Now. Lunch and a trip to Walmart with Beth and then later I shall teach Ben how to use Twitter (it's kind of adorable that he doesn't know) and then he shall teach me how to play Call of Duty.

So I've been sick since last Thursday. Fever, sore throat, and nauseous. I stayed in bed for most of my time since then, got up for class today, just the walk from my dorm to the union made me feel sick...and the bowling class, I was about ready to pass out. Which is why I'm now back in bed trying to sleep it off again.
thewrittenfae: (DW - Amy)
Class on my birthday...I really wish I could just call today a wash and just sleep the day away. Or party, but everyone has class or work.

So I sit while Moore takes attendance.

Yay...

ET: we're reading Anderson later in October. Including The Little Match Girl.

So first day of classes. So far so good. Bowling already feels like it'll be awkward with Jess in it, but Stina is considering registering for it to give Beth another buffer.

Just hanging out in Stina's room for a little bit before my class at 4. Yay.

Home!

I'm home from my week long camping trip!

Technically I was home yesterday, but since I was out and about with T, I wasn't around much because I was having fun with her.

My week was long...ver long...
  • Saturday - Monday we got in and set up the camp for the fest.
  • Tuesday night it poured but everything was alright. Well, at the campground. Our basement back home flooded. My friend was kind enough to pump our basement out for us...she was there until midnight.
  • Wed. morning it POURED...and it was windy as fuck. The storm knocked the registration tent, which is a 10 by 20 canopy, over on it's side. That...may have been our fault to a point because we hadn't staked or tied it down. My tent...my wonderful, lovely, tent...was taken by the storm and twisted and then filled with water. I'd been sleeping up with my parents because I hadn't been feeling well, which just leaves me glad I and my stuff weren't in it during the storm. Dad and Ken were able to fix it though. One pole is about two inches shorter but you don't really notice, and one pole has been duct taped, but it's the actual pole and not the connection so ti still folds away like it's supposed to. So over all my tent, while injured forever now, still works fine.
  • Wed. late morning, I got a text from my friend saying our basement looked exactly like it did before she pumped it out Tuesday night. So mom and I drove back home so we could take care of it. My friend offered, but I didn't want to risk her being there until midnight. Much love, but it's our house and she shouldn't get stuck with the responsibility.
  • Wed. night mom and I drove back to the campground (now, this is like a three hour drive, so it's not an easy thing to hop back and forth). We got in about midnight, at which point my tent still didn't have any of my stuff so I crashed at the trailer with my parents.
  • Thursday I got to see people, hug people, have some fun with people, and finally get my stuff in my tent. Air mattress air condensed in the night because it got fing cold. My hip ended up on the ground. I was sad. =( I also crashed early Thursday night, missing the drinking and drumming because I was so tired from being sick and the drive Wed.
  • Friday in the morning mom and I drove around to get me a new memory card for my camera and to order the fruit for the feast. Afternoon was to put said memory card to use, recording the discussion on sharing traditions. It was a good and interesting talk. Night was Follies, where we had 'You might be a redneck Pagan if...' and songs from 'Three Wicked Wenches'. I have video. 'Nuff said. And ver late night there was drumming and drinking had.
  • Saturday morning, mom and I picked up said fruit from local people. Their white peaches were AMAZING! I had one for breakfast. ^_^ Then it was the 3rd Annual Duck Races where an adult beat the kids. If I could show you the video, you'd understand why this makes me go o.O It involves lots of running back and forth around a slip 'n slide. Saturday night was Auction and then MmM! Feast! Pig roast was so delicious and tasty and I loved it. Saturday late night was main ritual and then drumming and drinking.
  • Sunday was for nursing hangovers, packing up, and saying goodbye. Almost everything, fest and personal was put away and done by Sunday night, which was very good. And we all had left overs of the feast food.
  • Monday was tear down for my tent and then finalizing the put away of stuff after a wonderful breakfast with left over eggs no one wanted to take home. Ver. Good. We were actually on the road before noon Monday, which surprised me a hell of a lot. And it got us home about 5 after unpacking the car.

Over all, it was an amazing fest and everyone enjoyed themselves. And the weather was amazing and wonderful! After the big storm Wed. morning (we open for people to arrive and register Wed. afternoon) we had 70 degree cool and nice breezes the entire week. Ver. Lovely.

And now, I'm at work. I work the rest of this week and the first half of next week and then I head to EIU next Friday. Or Saturday pending if mom can get off of work.

Storms at both the campground where we're hosting the fest and back home have left my tent broken and water logged and the basement at home flooded...

Mom and I are headed back to the house so we can pump the basement and then it's back to the fest. After today, no more storms! Period! Grrr....

The number of times I've tripped, had things jump off tables at me, or banged into something has gone up exponentially in the last couple days...and I want it to stop...

- I caught my foot on mom's chair in the kitchen, across the last three toes on my foot so I was limping.
- I went to pick my phone off the table in the kitchen and suddenly dad's wrench, which was on the corner of the table, is hitting my knee...
- I was walking out of my room and I stubbed my toe on the floor...
- I caught my knee on the coffee table in the living room...
- I hit the corner of a file cabinet here at work with my hip...
- I just caught my pinkie against the counter top and now it's all red and hurts...

WTF world?!

On a different note, I need a topic to host a blog on...hrm...

So, yesterday the cousin and I went and saw The Last Airbender. Now, I'd heard a lot before going to see this. You can't occasionally glance at the Avater series circles and not have heard exactly what fans of the anime thought. Decided to see it at the cheapest theater in town to see for my self.

Last Airbender thoughts )

Got home from the movie and was able to sit down for like ten minutes before mom and I went out to get dinner. Too much movie butter on the popcorn had me moving so very slowly. Got dinner, headed home and cooked said dinner. Parents during and after dinner watched Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. This, was a much better movie, IMO.

And I have to say, I absolutely adore Persephone in this movie. Hands down, my favorite Greek. She's not your average portrayal which I think is what endeared me to her all the more. Though, I do love the start of the movie where Poseidon emerges from the ocean all giant like and in a woosh of water he's human sized. And I was so amused at the end, Percy almost gets the kiss but doesn't.

I crashed pretty much after the movie. It's been a long weekend with the basement flooding, the phones being out (now they're back though), and the whole putting the grill together.
thewrittenfae: (AM - unsure)
So Friday night we had a huge storm. Like, you looked outside and it looked like a sheet coming down, plus lightening and thunder. Apparently some point during the night Chicago closed the storm drains so all the suburbs got flooded because there was no where for the water to go...they finally did open them but it didn't help much after that.

We got over four inches in our basement. St one point we had four pumps going to get water out. On top of that, mom and I had to go get one of those pumps Saturday morning, so for the better part of the morning I looked and felt like a drowned rat. And to boot, the storm took out the phones and internet.

I was out by 9pm...

I figured today would be nice and relaxing. Lazy breakfast with parents, maybe play some Xbox, and them movie with my cousin.

My uncle called and asked if we wanted to put the grill together today, dad said yes so he came over. The shower I took not 20 minutes before he got to the house became a moot point because I was under the poarch in the dirt...

The internet has been up and down all day, sometimes working sometimes not.

And I'm currently waiting for my cousin outside the movie theater for a movie that starts in 15 minutes.

So. For the last week, we've been told that they're shutting off the water in our building. Like, completely, no sinks, no bathrooms, no water fountains, nothing. Which means that we have to go across the street for bathrooms and what not if we're in the building.

There's been bitching left and right because it's against OSHA regulations to have a building open with no bathrooms. Especially since we have labs running experiments and we have lecture halls and classes and TAs and what not.

But fine. We put up signs, the Physics Department closed completely, WE almost closed completely, and for all intent and purpose we might as well have closed. All the labs for professors were shut down in preparation for this, a lot of professors didn't come in today, and to boot our staff (which totals 15 people) has been reduced to 6 people because so many took off with the option of no bathrooms. And that number will shortly be reduced to 5 after about 12:30pm.

So...yea. While I'm glad that we have water so I don't have to worry about bathrooms, the fact that the entire building prepared for this and then then canceled it was crap.
thewrittenfae: (Nicci - Wha?)
So...I've linked my headaches to the fact that the muscles from the base of my skull and all through my lower back are knotted...and I don't know how to get them unknotted... Mom's tried working them with massage, I've had those heating pads for muscles on them...nothing seems to work right now...but I know the headaches are from the tightened muscles because if I can get it to relax some the headache lessons and goes away.

In other news, I need new headphones for my mp3 player. The ones I have are kind of blah. I'm looking to see, if I have a run anywhere today, to head to the bookstore on campus and buy a new pair while I'm out.

Also, bicyclists are asshats. For the last three days, when mom and I drive in to work the same group of cyclists are riding down the street, four across so a car can't get around them. And we told the police and he did a shrug and said he didn't know what the actual laws were so he couldn't do anything. The laws, are that they only ride one across for safety reasons and that they fucking adhere to stop signs and stop lights. Do they? Of course not...jack asses. Tomorrow I'm throwing the bicycle rules of the road book I printed out at them. Maybe after they get up from being knocked to the ground they'll read it...even if they don't I'll have the joy of watching them tumble after throwing it at them.
thewrittenfae: (DW - Amy)
Two things this morning.

One.
Cyclist piss me the fuck off. It's bad enough that they ride through red lights and don't stop at stop signs. Which, they're supposed to because they're supposed follow traffic laws. Today? There were three cyclists riding straight across in the road. Like, they were stopping traffic because they had to be dicks. The cops want more money coming into the station? Write up all the cyclists that break traffic laws. You'll have more money coming in than you'd know what to do with at first, I'm sure because in Chicago, it's a big issue.

But yea, ten minutes behind a jack ass because there was traffic on the other side of us, not appreciated.

Two.
I have the hiccups and they won't go away! They are frequent enough I can't finish my breakfast of chicken ceaser salad...and I hiccup while on the phone with people, which is honestly just awkward, and...it's making my headache worse with all the little jerky movements. I hate hiccups....
thewrittenfae: (alone)
Today...is not starting out to be a good day. My head is killing me from lack of sleep, my stomach is turning for some reason I don't know, and my leg fucking hurts. Actually, more accurately, my knee.

The cramp in my calf has all but gone away, however at some point the other night I ended up twisting my knee so now that hurts...I swear to god if it's not one fucking thing it's another.

Top all that with the fact that it was 82 degrees at 8am and today's weather is panning out to kill me if I have runs. I really hope I don't have any runs though...

[Addition...]
So we got a new shredder in the front office because the last one died. Like made a really awful sound and just kicked it. So we have a new one that has a little light meter on the side that goes up progressively. Green means you can totally add more sheets to what you're shredding, yellow means that you're at about optimum capacity of sheets, and red means that it's too fucking much and you should take some out.

And just now there was a professor fighting with the shredder because it didn't really want to take her pile and it was acting a little funny, and she's sitting there trying to figure out why it's just stopped taking the paper and is just sitting there half eaten.

I walk over and reverse the pull so the half eaten pages come out and tell her that she's putting too much in and all I get back is a snapped "Well it's what I've been doing this entire time." I had to bite back the, "And you've been having trouble the entire time." I swear to god, one of the professors is going to break the machine we JUST bought because they aren't paying enough attention to care or think they know better...
thewrittenfae: (ED - survive)
I wish...if people didn't want to thread with me, they'd at least tell me...
thewrittenfae: (Aubs)
Couldn't really seem to wake up this morning. Too tired. I still want to curl up and go back to bed...
My head is killing me, which I fully blame on the front we have going through here. It's pouring outside, or was when I came in. I also feel nauseous though that one I'm not sure why.

I also feel like I'm trying at half speed, which, considering my headache probably means I actually am...

And Mom, Dad, and I are still pissed that the Copper fire pit we had in the backyard was stolen yesterday. Dad filed a report yesterday with the police and dad is going to check the nearest scrap metal place to see if anyone came in and sold it to them. I'm really hoping it turns up, but the pessimist in me says it won't.

Bah...
